Travel to San Antono

The conference will be held at the University of Texas at San Antonio Downtown Campus. The address is 501 César E. Chávez Boulevard*, San Antonio, TX, 78207. The downtown area is located approximately 15 minutes from the San Antonio International airport (SAT). The airport’s shuttle service is $18 and a taxi will cost between $25 and $30.

Below are directions to the hotel and conference location at UTSA Downtown (hotel is across the street from UTSA Downtown):

From Austin or Dallas, TX: Take IH-35 South into downtown, exit Cesar E. Chavez Blvd/Frio. Hotel is on the right.

From Houston, TX: Take IH-10 West, To 35 North. Take lower level. Exit South Alamo, turn left. South Alamo becomes Frio Street. Hotel is on the corner of Frio & Cesar E. Chavez Blvd.

From Airport: Take HWY 281 South. Exit Cesar E. Chavez Blvd (formerly Durango Blvd) turn right. Hotel is (1) mile down on your left.

From El Paso, TX: IH-10 East merges into IH-35. Stay on IH-35 South, Exit Cesar E. Chavez/Frio. Hotel is on your right.

*Cesar E. Chavez Blvd. formerly Durango Blvd., was officially changed by the City of San Antonio August 1, 2011. Please note that some GPS systems will still locate the hotel by the street name Durango Blvd.

Staying in San Antonio

The UTSA Women’s Studies Institute has reserved a block of rooms at the Hilton Doubletree hotel in downtown San Antonio for the 2012 Gloria Anzaldua conference. More info »

Trip to the Rio Grande Valley

SSGA will be traveling to the South Texas Valley on Wednesday, May 16, to visit the grave of Gloria Anzaldúa in Hargill, TX, and to attend a program coordinated by scholars and students at University of Texas Pan America (UTPA). Attendees will leave at 5:00 AM and will return by 10 PM.

The program includes a ceremony at Valle de la Paz cemetery in Hargill, and a celebratory symposium and luncheon with Dr. Aída Hurtado, who will give the keynote “You Can Never Go Home Again, But You Can Always Return to the Valley.” The lunch and symposium will take place at UTPA.

To register, please pre-register for the conference by filling out and mailing the registration form, by the pre-registration deadline (April 15). Please indicate on the form that you would like to participate in the trip. The cost is $75.
